Artists Against Fracking

The Made Shop has been working feverishly the past two weeks with Sean Lennon and Yuka Honda and Jared Geller and Yoko Ono and an innumerable list of other artists in New York to put together a campaign to urge New York’s Governor Cuomo to ban hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) in New York State.

Sean & Yoko will be on Jimmy Fallon tonight which I’m told is going to be well worth watching. Please help spread the word, check out the website to learn more about fracking and why it is a dangerous and terribly bad idea, and contact Governor Cuomo to voice your opinion.

Last night, a group of like-minded artists launched a campaign to stand up against the devastation that will be caused if hydraulic fracturing (fracking) legislation is passed in places like New York.

Yeah this man really says everything that needs to be said and nothing more.

And I totally get his point about not knowing whether to trust Mr Ocean’s letter completely, however I do solely because of the way he wrote it, it was truly moving. And I really hope that it speaks to anyone who is “in the closet” and/or is struggling to come to terms with some of the things they find difficult about themselves.

I found his letter particularly powerful because (and I don’t mean to undermine others because of this) it was coming from a black man working in a particular part of the music industry that, to me, has never really spoken positively about homosexuality. And it was so nice to see people within that part of the industry to respond to his letter so positively and it gave me hope that maybe there will be more political correctness in these rap songs surrounding the topic of homosexuality.

But I also, and this is why I want to hug this man, agree that it can be frustrating when certain people use homosexuality or bisexuality as a tool to gain media attention. I think it’s completely wrong and I’ve seen it a lot with the female artists claiming to be bisexual because they like lap dances from women, or think certain women are sexier to them than others. I think if anything these people are defiling and abusing the work of so many bisexuals and homosexuals who try to promote themselves as equals and are trying to be taken seriously as human beings.

Sexuality is not a joke to most people, for some people it defines their lifestyle or for others it merely defines who they want to love in the most intimate way. And I hope that because of Mr Ocean’s really powerful and emotional, heartfelt letter that these people - the people who will claim certain things to gain attention - will realise that what they are doing undermines so many people and their personal struggles.

I… am… fuming! The first sign of interest from a “buyer” on Etsy and it turns out to be a spammer!

The b*****d clearly tried to con me. Please read the conversation, it’s unbelievable!

** The red blocks are where he put in his email, and the black blocks are where his name goes : ( (I thought “Should I let everyone see it, shame the little s**t!” but I don’t think that’s legal - OH THE IRONY!) **

My first suspicion was where he initially dropped his “personal email” in the conversation, asking for “new pictures”.. ???

That was my first alarm signal, but I thought I’d give him the benefit of the doubt… But it just got worse.

New pictures? What the hell would he need new pictures for? I posted 5 on the bloody listing! All different angles, colour corrections and everything!

Outlined here in the Help section of Etsy’s website, it says one of the questions to ask when it comes to spammers is “(Do they) Seem to not have read or looked at your listing, based on their vague questions?”

Urgh! The little $%&%$$^^%**!!! Take a look at my friggin’ listing and you’ll see the flippin’ pictures. 5! That’s 4 more than I could have bloody posted!

And what’s this business about sending the painting to a Pickup Agent? If you want to buy a painting for yourself, why the f**k would you send it to someone else!!! I literally just googled it now, there’s no such thing as far as I’m concerned when it comes to art, that’s just BS I REFUSE to swallow! : (

It’s funny because I check my email every minute - I’m not even taking to piss, it’s like an OCD thing I’ve picked up, I’m desperate to receive emails.

Every minute I’m like “Have I got more email? Any new email?” It’s a sickness! - anyway, my point is that I picked up his email within seconds of him sending it. I was even quicker to reply to him, and he also responded within minutes when it seemed like I was still hanging onto a “deal”, but since I last emailed him he hasn’t gotten back to me… and it’s been almost 45 minutes.. tut… tut!

Quite frankly, I’m upset. I’ve been trying to sell my art online, raking up attention whilst trying my best not to come across as a spammer myself, and this is how I’ve been repaid. By some d***head who can’t even be bothered to spell correctly in important messages.

The audacity of these people who thrive on getting the hopes up of struggling artists, and robbing them of their hard work. The nerve!

Please, for the love of God if you’ve been kind enough to read my rant : P, please look out for willyheads like this guy and kick them to the curve, don’t let them take you for a mug.

But let me make this clear: I am in no way deterred.

If you’re looking at my painting and genuinely want to buy it, go ahead and click the “Buy” button on the listing, or ask me an honest enquiry first.

I refuse to give up hope.

there’s no better feeling, as a REmixer, than finding RECords that ignites and inspires the imagination, and drives the want to make something out of it. Cheslea’s RAW RECording of her rhythmic stomping & clapping is one of those RECords.
Seriously. Check that shit out. REmix the hell out of it while you’re at it.
The moment I heard it, I got straight to work. I had a couple little drum experiments laying around, and Chelsea’s groove woke them right up. I added a drum loop from Gwen’s ever-resourceful collection to the fun. My usual instruments are taking a siesta for the time being, but I didn’t mind using my buddy’s Fender Jazz Bass & Washburn Hollowbody to fill the void (though my trusty Strat does make a cameo appearance near the end).
here’s what finally emerged from the musical wanderings. It’s still “in progress” and I will do some more with it once the inspiration strikes yet again…

I hope you and your ears enjoy.

This is part of what my heart dances a little jig about with hitRECord. Where else can people who literally live across the country from each other - collaborate to make something this damn epic and incredible sounding? I was hoping when I uploaded my stomp-clap rhythm that some cool shit would happen with it. I thought maybe a few people would be amused, possibly play with it. Did I expect amazing REmixers like RJ and RP (yay for the Rs <3) to grab hold of it and rock the shit out of it? Not at all and I am SO ecstatic and happy they both did!
